Job Overview:
GrizzlyTrek is currently seeking one C- Commissioning & Startup (CSU) Coordinator (Power Block) to join our team at an Alberta industrial project site. This is a contract position, ideally suited to an experienced commissioning professional committed to safe and efficient startup execution. Under the direction of the CSU Manager, the successful candidate will prepare for and lead the safe Commissioning and Startup of the Power Block Unit.
Responsibilities:
Build in-depth knowledge of the project, including the CSU Execution Plan, project schedule, systemization, and assigned Power Block Unit scope.
Establish working relationships with CSU, Construction, Engineering, and Operations personnel and become familiar with project terminology, procedures, and standards.
Prepare for system turnover by understanding system scope, turnover sequence, cleaning plans, steam blow planning, and required temporary spools and consumables.
Support Construction Complete walkdowns and become proficient with SmartCompletions (CMS tool), including punch list and system handover processes.
Review, comment on, and finalize Power Block commissioning packages and procedures in alignment with vendor requirements.
Follow EH&S standards and lead safe execution of all CSU field activities; audit, intervene, coach, and mentor as required.
Comply with SIMOPS plan requirements and communicate planned activities directly with the construction workforce.
Support Operations Readiness Inspection (ORI/PSSR) to validate startup readiness prior to first fire and energization.
Attend and support CC/MC/STCC walkdowns and daily CSU execution meetings; contribute to three-week lookahead planning.
Coordinate field execution activities between Field Operations and Craft Discipline Leads; lead resolution of field issues and escalate when required.
Act as CSU liaison with vendors and specialty contractors; support progress tracking and barrier removal.
Support development and issuance of nightshift Daily Order Instructions (DOIs) for the Power Block unit.
Power Block-specific responsibilities include supporting auxiliary systems pre-commissioning (lube oil flushing, fuel gas testing), control systems validation (machine protection systems, Bently Nevada, vendor-specific control logic), grid synchronization of GTG/STG units, HRSG chemical cleaning activities, instrumentation calibration oversight, and Woodward Governor calibration.
Qualifications:
Extensive commissioning and startup experience within power generation or large industrial facilities.
Strong understanding of system turnover, SmartCompletions (or similar CMS tools), SIMOPS, and EH&S standards.
Demonstrated leadership experience coordinating multidisciplinary field teams during commissioning and startup phases.
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience with gas turbine generators (GTGs), steam turbine generators (STGs), HRSG systems, and associated auxiliary systems.
Experience supporting grid synchronization, machine protection systems, and vendor-led specialty commissioning activities.
Work Environment:
Industrial construction and commissioning environment within a Power Block unit. The role requires significant field presence, leadership during high-risk startup activities, coordination with multiple stakeholders, and strict adherence to safety and SIMOPS protocols.
