Position Overview
The Data Center Operations Manager is responsible for the oversight, reliability, and performance of mission-critical data center operations. This role ensures high availability of infrastructure systems, environmental controls, and supporting technologies while maintaining operational discipline, compliance, and security standards.
The position requires a blend of technical expertise, operational leadership, and hands-on infrastructure experience to support enterprise and federal environments. The Data Center Operations Manager will lead operational staff, coordinate vendors, manage facilities systems, and ensure compliance with applicable security and regulatory frameworks.

- Must live within reasonable driving distance of Columbia, SC
- 5 days onsite per week
Minimum Requirements for this position are as follows
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data center operations; AND
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field; OR
- Advanced certifications (e.g., Data Center Certified Associate, Certified Data Center Professional) preferred
The primary scope of duties include
- Overseeing daily data center operations to ensure 24x7 availability of systems and services
- Managing data center infrastructure including power distribution, UPS systems, HVAC, generators, fire suppression, and environmental controls
- Monitoring performance, capacity, and environmental metrics; proactively mitigating operational risks
- Leading incident response efforts including outage management, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Coordinating installation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of server, storage, and network hardware
- Maintaining architecture diagrams, rack elevations, and network topology maps
- Managing capacity planning and performance optimization initiatives
- Enforcing change management and configuration management processes
- Supervising data center personnel and managing shift schedules and escalation procedures
- Managing vendors, SLAs, contracts, and service providers
- Supporting audits, compliance assessments, and security reviews
Minimum Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data center operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience
- Advanced certifications such as Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) or Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) preferred
- Demonstrated experience supporting regulated or secure environments
Security Requirements
Must be able to obtain up to a Secret Clearance
Scope of Work and Requirements
- Ensure operational reliability and high availability of data center facilities and infrastructure
- Maintain compliance with industry standards and federal security requirements (e.g., FISMA/NIST, DOJ/USAO policies)
- Oversee lifecycle management of hardware and infrastructure assets
- Maintain documentation including architecture diagrams, rack layouts, and infrastructure mapping
- Support disaster recovery and continuity planning initiatives
- Ensure adherence to safety and operational best practices
