Job Function:

This position reports directly to the Director of Campus Events and is responsible for the downtown campus conference and events set-up support. The employee is expected to perform physical labor, handle complex set-up needs, and coordinate with multiple offices, internal and external clients, peers, and other College employees. As appropriate, this position will be the lead setup laborer at the downtown campus and assist with all Campus Events setups at all campuses. This position requires frequent use of a computer. As appropriate, this position does related work for Facilities and Parking as required through the direction of the Director of Campus Events.

Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Loads and unloads trucks
  • Rakes, tamps, and shovels asphalt
  • Repairs manholes, catch basins
  • Assists in sewer repairs
  • Cleans sewers and inspects for structural problems
  • Assists mechanics with basic repairs to trucks and equipment
  • Cleans and flushes catch basins
  • Cleans and shampoos rugs and mops floors
  • Plows and shovels snow from streets, parks, and recreational areas
  • Mops and sweeps zoo buildings and bath houses
  • Paints and makes minor repairs to public use equipment
  • Collects trash
  • Cuts grass and rakes and blows leaves; splits wood
  • Cleans lodges, bathrooms, animal enclosures, etc.
  • Maintains facilities for beach area, skating rinks, and campgrounds
  • Repairs holes in roads and parking lots
  • Prunes trees and bushes
  • Moves tables, benches, office equipment, furniture, etc.
  • Cements foundations for grills, playground equipment, signs, sheds, and gate posts
  • Plants flowers and weeds in gardens

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Reviews Campus Events calendars, setups, and diagrams for events and activities
  • Physical set-up at a variety of locations, all manner of conference and events equipment, using verbal, written (word and diagrams), often changing instructions to ensure the venue meets expectations from a Building Services perspective

  • Performs the work independently or with a small work crew (s) under the supervision of the director and/or labor foreman

  • Performs off-hours setups for events as directed by verbal, written (word and diagrams) instructions from the director and/or labor foreman, manager, or coordinator. Assists and contributes to setups during overtime and weekend work for events.

  • Attends meetings with the Campus Events office and other college service providers; working in collaboration to assist in the setup for large/small, present/future, student/administrative, and rental events

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the director

Job Requirements:

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of specific hazards and safety precautions in operating equipment and vehicles; willingness to perform routine heavy manual work; willingness to work under all weather conditions; ability to lift heavy weights; ability to follow oral instructions; ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees; good judgment; reliability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.


Special Requirements:

  • Must possess the appropriate driver's license for the vehicle(s) being operated at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of paid full-time, or its part-time equivalent experience, performing functional duties for which the jurisdiction's operations are designed.
  • Experience with, or proven ability, to learn job-specific software, in this case: WebTMA, Banner, Visio, and Ad Astra.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.


Additional Information:

Job Type: Full-Time

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., flexible, based on work needs

Salary: $35,967.31 per year. Eligible for an increment increase after 6 months of service.

Pay Transparency Disclaimer: The posted salary range represents the full salary scale for this position, which includes all pay steps within the range. The starting salary for all new hires is typically at the entry-level figure, as determined by the step placement of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Progression through the range occurs over time based on established criteria such as length of service and performance. This range is provided to give applicants an understanding of the potential earnings over the course of a career in this role.
