About This Position
At Salem Transitional Care of Cascadia Healthcare, providing quality meals is an important part of the care we give our residents every day. We are looking for a dependable and motivated Culinary Aide to join our Dietary Services team and assist with food preparation, meal service, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
In this role, you will help support the Dietary Services team by assisting with food preparation, tray service, dishwashing, and kitchen sanitation in a fast-paced healthcare setting. This position plays an important part in ensuring meals are prepared safely, served at the proper temperature, and presented in an appealing manner while following all facility and food safety standards.
Essential Functions- Assist with basic food preparation including chopping, portioning, assembling, and preparing simple menu items
- Prepare and serve food according to planned menus, standardized recipes, and therapeutic diet guidelines
- Ensure meals are served on time, at proper temperature, and in an attractive manner
- Follow portion control standards and resident diet orders
- Maintain proper food storage, labeling, dating, and temperature logs
- Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment using proper sanitation procedures
- Keep kitchen, prep areas, and dishwashing stations clean and organized
- Follow all food safety, infection control, and workplace safety procedures
- Assist with stocking supplies, putting away deliveries, and monitoring inventory levels
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any problems to the supervisor
- Work cooperatively with dietary staff, nursing, and other departments
- Interact respectfully with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance for scheduled shifts
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- Previous food service, kitchen, dietary aide, or prep cook experience preferred
- Experience in healthcare, long-term care, or skilled nursing facility preferred
- At least six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred
Licenses / Certifications
- Food Handler’s Permit required (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment safety regulations
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow directions and work well as part of a team
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs
- Reliable and punctual
