About the Role:
The Equipment Operator is responsible for machinery that compresses and binds recyclable materials into bales for easy storage and transportation. This position requires the operator to monitor the machine’s performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality and safety standards are met. The Baler Operator is responsible for conducting basic preventative maintenance and inspections of the machine, ensuring it is in proper working order.

Responsibilities:

- Monitor the flow of materials to ensure proper loading into the baler.
- Operate industrial balers, loaders, and automated bunker systems in the recycling plant.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance and inspections on balers and associated equipment.
- Make minor repairs and adjustments to machinery as needed.
- Ensure single-stream processing is uninterrupted by properly utilizing balers and bunkers.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas and equipment.
- Follow all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety policies.
- Maintain timely, professional communication with plant operations, maintenance, and baler supervision.
- Prepare and provide daily baler production reports to plant operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid Driver’s License (if applicable).
- Ability to read, speak, and write basic English.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with industrial machinery, preferably stationary equipment or Sierra balers.
- Experience in the recycling industry is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven ability to perform duties safely and in compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Skilled in operating industrial balers, loaders, and automated bunker systems.
- Experience performing basic preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments on equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Normal work environment is a recycling plant, with exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, high levels of noise, smells/odors and at times exposure to dangerous and/or toxic substances requiring necessary precautions, including PPE.
