In response to a physician's referral, a PTA provides PT services according to the State Board of Physical Therapy (GA or SC), CMS, and other regulatory agencies and within the scope of his/her training, knowledge, and experience. A PTA may perform PT procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising PT. These treatments may include, but are not limited to, functional mobility training, therapeutic exercise, modality procedures, and wound care. Direct patient care is provided to individuals, infant to geriatric, as their expertise and caseload demands. PTA will coordinate and provide patient and family education, determine the need for additional, appropriate referrals, execute effective PT services, participate in educational programs and perform non-patient care responsibilities as assigned. Participation in program development and QA/CQI activities is required. The PTA will consult and coordinate with interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive treatment, will pursue continued education and assist in the marketing of PT and departmental services.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the ability to properly treat patients (infants through geriatrics) in respect to assessment/evaluation provided by the physical therapist.
- Obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s and their families’ needs, knowledge of growth and development and understanding.
Qualifications
- Current licensure with the appropriate State Board of Physical Therapy.
- Certification (CPR) in Basic Life Support is due within 90 days of hire.
- Maintain biannual CPR certification.
