Job Overview:
RWJBH is seeking an Assistant Director Patient Care in the Endoscopy Room Department at the New Brunswick campus.
The Assistant Director of Patient Care demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to make decisions regarding the provision of age-appropriate care for the unit s patient population,
Ensures that the Endoscopy Suite is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations,
The Assistant Director will have oversight of three distinct areas - Admission - 6 bays, Procedural - 4 bays, and Recovery - 6 bays,
Administrative duties will include payroll, scheduling (monthly and PTO) and ensuring regulatory metrics are met,
The Assistant Director Patient Care is a registered professional nurse who under the direction of the Nursing Director coordinates available resources to efficiently and effectively provide professional nursing care of a quality consistent with the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Standards of Care to the patients assigned to his/her unit. The Assistant Director Patient Care demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to make decisions regarding the provision of age-appropriate care for the unit’s patient population.
Qualifications:
Required:
- BSN degree required
- At least 3-5 Years Registered Nurse experience
- 2-3 Years Nursing Leadership experience
Preferred:
- 2-3 years experience in Peri-anesthesia Nursing preferred,
- 2-3 years experience in Endoscopy preferred,
- 2-3 years experience in ICU preferred,
- CGRN National Certification preferred
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- BLS and ACLS Certification
- Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License
Scheduling Requirements:
- Day Shift, 40 hours per week
- Monday – Friday, some weekend commitment and holiday rotation

Essential Functions:
- Facilitates the safe and effective functioning of the unit as demonstrated by:
- Interviewing and hiring unlicensed personnel
- Interviewing and hiring licensed personnel in collaboration with Nursing Director
- Facilitates the orientation process for new employees as demonstrated by:
- Making assignments that maintain preceptor-orientee relationship.
- Working the preceptor-orientee to solve any problems
- Ensuring that orientees complete the unit-based orientation within an appropriate individualized time frame
- Contributes to the professional growth and development of staff by:
- Continuously assessing patient care to evaluate staff knowledge and patterns of performance
- Counseling staff on identified areas for improvement
- Evaluating the staff performance as demonstrated by the completion of the performance evaluation in a timely manner
- Counseling and implementing appropriate disciplinary action
- Planning/coordinating unit based education programs as identified by unit needs
- Considers staff participation in safety/quality initiatives when completing employee performance appraisals
