What We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced Senior Statutory Accountant to join our finance team at Aspida. As a Senior Statutory Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting in accordance with statutory requirements in the insurance industry. This position requires strong technical expertise in insurance accounting and a deep understanding of statutory reporting requirements. This role reports to the Accounting Manager is required to be onsite at our Durham office 3 days a week.
What You Will Do:
- Prepare and review statutory financial statements for the life insurance company, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., NAIC, state insurance departments).
- Prepare journal entries. Assist in investigation of significant variances of various income statement accounts.
- Contribute to finance transformation projects, including identifying automated solutions to current manual processes.
- Review detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and aid in variance explanations.
- Stay abreast of changes in insurance accounting standards and regulatory guidelines, implementing necessary updates to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with external auditors during year-end audits and regulatory examinations, addressing audit findings and ensuring timely completion of audit requirements.
- Manage the preparation and filing of statutory insurance filings, including annual statements, risk-based capital reports, and other regulatory submissions.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement in statutory reporting processes.
- Provide technical accounting guidance to cross-functional teams and support business initiatives with comprehensive financial analysis.

Requirements:What We Require:
- BA / BS in accounting, finance, or related degree
- Knowledge of insurance accounting principles (e.g., GAAP, SAP, EBS) and regulatory requirements (e.g., NAIC Annual Statement)
- Solid technology skills including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and financial modeling skills
- Collaborative approach based on the ability to listen and value others’ opinions
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA / CPA / CFA
- 2-4 years of relevant finance experience, preferably in insurance or financial services
