Position Title: Director of Imaging Services

Position Summary:

The Director of Diagnostic Imaging provides visionary, strategic, and operational leadership for all imaging services across the organization, including Diagnostic Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, and associated support functions. This role is accountable for ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, safe, efficient, and patient‑centered imaging services that support clinical decision‑making, care delivery, and organizational growth.

The Director leads imaging operations with a strong focus on clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, patient throughput, workforce optimization, and fiscal stewardship. This includes oversight of day‑to‑day operations, long‑term modality planning, technology adoption, equipment lifecycle management, and the implementation of evidence‑based imaging practices.

Working collaboratively with radiologists, nursing leaders, physicians, and executive leadership, the Director ensures seamless integration of imaging services across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and procedural environments. The position plays a key role in quality improvement, performance analytics, scheduling optimization, and service expansion efforts that enhance access and support strategic initiatives.

The Director also serves as the primary steward of imaging informatics, ensuring the effective use of PACS, RIS, EHR integration, and emerging technologies such as AI‑enabled workflow and decision support tools. This leader fosters a culture of accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement, while ensuring that imaging services remain technologically advanced, patient-friendly, operationally efficient, and financially sustainable.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in radiologic sciences, health care administration, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 –10 years of progressive leadership experience in diagnostic imaging operations required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of imaging standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in budgeting, capital planning, and large-scale operations management.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required.
  • Certification with the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Operational Leadership:

  • Develop the strategic plan for imaging services, aligning modalities with organizational priorities, growth initiatives, and community needs.
  • Lead daily operations, ensuring departmental efficiency, compliance, and timely delivery of diagnostic services.
  • Drive continuous improvement in patient throughput, imaging accuracy, and system integration.

Clinical Quality & Patient Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to evidence‑based imaging protocols and radiation safety standards.
  • Oversee ongoing regulatory readiness, including compliance with ACR, DNV, CMS, NRC, FDA MQSA, and state regulations.
  • Partner with medical directors and radiologists to maintain high-quality image standards and interpretation reliability.

Workforce Leadership & Development:

  • Direct recruitment, retention, and performance management of imaging staff across all modalities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professional growth, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Develop training programs for technologists, students, and cross‑trained staff to maintain competency and certification.

Financial & Resource Management:

  • Manage operational budgets, productivity targets, and capital planning for imaging equipment and technology.
  • Optimize staffing models, shift patterns, and scheduling to improve access and reduce overtime.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, equipment service contracts, and modality utilization.

Technology, Equipment & Innovation:

  • Lead strategic planning for imaging technology upgrades, replacement cycles, and digital transformation.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of PACS, RIS, EHR workflows, and imaging informatics.
  • Evaluate and implement advanced technologies such as AI decision-support, remote reading, and workflow automation.

Patient Experience & Service Excellence:

  • Improve patient access through scheduling optimization, reduced wait times, and service expansion.
  • Ensure a compassionate, patient-centered environment emphasizing comfort, clarity, and communication.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction and implement targeted improvement strategies.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Build strong partnerships with physicians, nursing leadership, emergency services, and surgical teams.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, performance dashboards, and quality reports.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with radiologist groups and contracted service providers.
