About This Position

Laboratory Manager

Med-Center for Vaccine Research (CVR) - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26000743)

This position will serve as a senior Laboratory Manager for the Center for Vaccine Research (CVR). The incumbent will lead daily laboratory operations while also conducting research benchwork aimed at understanding why children experience distinct disease trajectories following exposure to respiratory viruses. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a cooperative team. Strict adherence to BSL2 procedures is essential. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, overseeing inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment; coordinating the shipping, storage, and inventory of human biological samples; providing research and technical support, which may include vertebrate animal research; supervising and training laboratory personnel; and collaborating on manuscript and grant preparation. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, comfortable balancing laboratory operations with scientific execution, and eager to help establish and manage a new laboratory while developing complex projects and procedures.


Job Summary

Directs day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Develops moderately complex projects and procedures independently. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions. Collaborates to write grant applications and manuscripts.


Essential Functions

Must be able to read and comprehend the English language and have normal visual ability with no hearing impairments. Must possess adequate manual dexterity to perform sensitive laboratory procedures including work within a BSL2 environment.


Physical Effort

Position involves frequent movement to various places, occasionally involving heavy equipment and prolonged standing or sitting.
