OVERVIEW: The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Specialist will implement evidenced-based programs to reduce teenage pregnancy, underlying youth underlying behavioral risk factors for teenage pregnancy, or other associated risk factor. The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Specialist will work with youth ages 10-19, with a significant focus on youth ages 15-19 that are guests at The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. In addition, the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Specialist will work with adults and/or parents and guardians of adolescents to assist them in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy in their families. Programs will focus on identified youth most vulnerable to teen pregnancy, STDs, multiple partners, and other risks associated with sexual activity (i.e., incest, drugs, alcohol). The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the case files of assigned youth enrolled in the program and any additional programmatic needs as the Youth Program Supervisor sees fit. Programming should recognize the importance of healthy decision-making throughout adolescence via regular sessions and may include mentorship and/or education from qualified healthcare. The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Specialist requires a high degree of ethics, commitment, compassion, and flexibility to effectively uphold the mission and values of the Youth Program and of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida as a whole.
Key Responsibilities
- Replicate evidence-based program models with fidelity for youth ages 10–19 who are guests at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.
- Present topics including reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STIs, HIV, and healthy relationships in a trauma-responsive, youth-centered, and inclusive manner.
- Complete required training in support of position duties and responsibilities.
- Assist in planning and scheduling implementation of the teen pregnancy prevention curriculum.
- Secure supplemental educational materials; prepare speeches, lectures, and demonstrations on teen pregnancy prevention and adult preparation education topics.
- Ensure compliance with all grant deliverables, reporting requirements, and documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
- Provide education to adults, parents, and guardians to support adolescent pregnancy prevention and empower them as primary sexuality educators.
- Retrieve, interpret, and disseminate statistical information (e.g., teen birth rates, youth risk behavior surveys, HIV/STD rates) to increase community awareness.
- Assist participants with inquiries and referrals to community resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including activities supporting public health emergency operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized youth room space daily.
- Exemplify the Coalition mission statement and adhere to agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, health education/health promotion, social science, education, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in public health, health education/promotion, youth development, education, public speaking, program development, or related fields preferred.
- 1–2 years of case management experience preferred.
- Training in Human Sexuality Education required.
- Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
- Bilingual candidates highly encouraged to apply.
- Must pass a Level 2 background screening upon hire.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain certification upon hire).
Required Skills
- Ability to become versed in contract requirements.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, with the ability to learn new programs.
- Ability to complete and analyze documentation, including case notes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport with staff and guests.
- Ability to work in a normal office environment and outdoor program settings.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, handle objects, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Visual acuity (close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus).
- Adequate hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
