Job Summary

The Animal Care Specialist/Kennel Attendant is responsible for the daily care and well-being of our animal guests including feeding, cleaning and providing exercise and socialization. This position will ensure a safe facility for all pets attending to their physical and emotional health while maintaining a kennel environment that meets our standard of excellence.

This is a full-time, year-round position requiring flexible availability, including a rotating schedule for weekends and holidays.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Transports animals to and from the kennels
  • Maintains an organized facility by following specific guidelines for placement of kennel materials such as food, bowls, laundry, leashes and medication
  • Follows specific protocols for cleaning the kennel facility including runs, crates, drains, floors, dog bowls and laundry
  • Accurately follows measurement appropriations and feeding directions for each pet, per client instructions
  • Assists with dog rotations and playgroup setups throughout scheduled shifts at prescribed times
  • Follows the color-coded caution system
  • Ensures that the animals have ample fresh food and water at all times
  • Completes all task lists and checklists within prescribed timelines
  • Accompanies animals on walks, if required
  • Reports significant changes in functioning to the manager or medical professional on duty
  • Assists with evacuating all animals if an emergency occurs

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of animal care experience required
  • Professional pet industry experience strongly preferred
  • Comfortable interacting with all breeds large and small
  • Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required

Computer Skills

  • Must be able to learn and efficiently use company software
  • Must be able to learn new technology in accordance with business needs

Physical Demands

  • Position requires a person to be both indoors and outdoors regardless of the weather
  • Majority of the day is spent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds with assist
  • Must be comfortable working with a wide variety of animals including small and large dogs
  • Must be able to climb 2 flights of stairs multiple times per day

Working Conditions

  • Potential exposure to dog and cat bites
  • Potential exposure to contagious disease or infection
  • Exposure to contaminants
  • Exposure to extreme weather (i.e. heat and cold)
  • Must be able to work around pet hair and dander

The pay range for this role is:
15 - 19 USD per hour(JMPRVC)
