Job Description
CIG is seeking a Tax Manager to support tax compliance, reporting, and planning across a complex organization that includes high‑net‑worth individuals, trusts, partnerships, real estate investments, private foundations, and investment holding entities. This role partners closely with the CFO, Manager of Finance, accounting team, investment professionals, and external tax advisors to ensure accurate, timely reporting and well‑coordinated tax processes.
The position offers broad exposure to sophisticated tax matters and is designed to grow over time through structured knowledge transfer and increasing ownership. Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and review federal and multi‑state income tax returns for high‑net‑worth individuals, trusts, private foundations, partnerships, LLCs, real estate entities, and investment holding entities
- Prepare, review, and reconcile tax workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation for use by external tax preparers
- Analyze complex K‑1s, tiered partnership structures, tax basis, capital accounts, and related tax attributes
- Support trust and estate tax allocations, distribution analysis, gifting activity, and estate planning coordination
- Track tax impacts of investment and real estate activity, including capital gains, income, holding periods, and transaction‑level considerations
- Assist with tax analysis related to real estate investments, including Opportunity Zones, 1031 exchanges, and §754 elections
- Support periodic tax planning efforts, estimated tax payment coordination, and long‑term planning discussions
- Serve as an internal liaison with external tax advisors, managing timelines, reviewing draft returns, and ensuring proactive compliance
- Contribute to process improvements, documentation standards, and system enhancements, with increasing ownership of the tax function over time
- Strong analytical and technical problem‑solving abilities
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
- Collaborative communication style with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly
- Interest in expanding technical depth and taking on broader responsibility
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex spreadsheets and large data sets
- Experience working with accounting and reporting systems and adapting to new tools and processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation required
- Master’s degree in Taxation preferred
- CPA required
- 5–8 years of tax experience in public accounting or a sophisticated family office environment
- Strong technical expertise in partnership taxation, trust and estate taxation, and high‑net‑worth individual tax planning
- Experience with real estate investments, private equity structures, and multi‑entity ownership structures preferred
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Office‑based role with standard physical requirements
- Minimal travel (0–10%)
