About the Role:
The Mechanic role is critical in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of diesel trucks and related heavy machinery. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex diesel engines, braking systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic components to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan. The successful candidate will work closely with a team to troubleshoot mechanical issues, replace worn parts such as gaskets and alternators, and perform routine inspections to prevent future failures. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are paramount to protect both the equipment and personnel. Ultimately, this role supports operational efficiency by keeping the fleet in excellent working condition through expert mechanical skills and proactive maintenance strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or in a similar mechanical role focused on diesel trucks.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, fuel systems, and hydraulics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate heavy vehicles as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from a recognized institution such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) in diesel mechanics.
- Experience working with commercial diesel trucks in a fleet environment.
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic equipment and software.
- Additional training or certification in hydraulics or fuel system repair.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, braking systems, and fuel systems to ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
- Inspect, maintain, and replace hydraulic components and gaskets as needed to prevent leaks and mechanical failures.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, brake adjustments, and alternator replacements to extend vehicle service life.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and develop effective repair solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules to support fleet management and compliance requirements.
