Position Summary:

The Aullwood - Assistant, Guest Services will provide customer service to visitors and maintain the Gift Shop, Nature Center and Farm Discovery Center for the public. They will work to ensure visitors feel welcomed, engaged, and are energized with a greater understanding of local, regional and hemispheric conservation issues through Audubon’s mission. This is a full-time position that covers the farm, and the center, and includes weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts.


This position is classified as on-site based at Ohio Aullwood Center and Farm in Dayton.

Compensation:


$19.00 - $20.00 / hour
Essential Functions
  • Greet members and visitors and take admission for Aullwood property.

  • Orient visitors to the Aullwood property.

  • Provide exceptional customer service.

  • Answer visitor questions and inform them of current Aullwood events and activities.

  • Perform light housekeeping, ensuring the reception, lobby areas and classrooms are neat and organized.

  • Answer phone calls and operate the front desk, including maintaining brochures, newsletters, etc.

  • Inform visitors of Aullwood policies/rules.

  • Sell, promote, stock, and assist with inventory of Aullwood Farm products and Nature Store merchandise at the Nature Store & Gift Shop and the Farm Kiosk.

  • Assist with special events.

  • Sell Aullwood memberships.

  • Open and close building to the public.

  • Check restrooms to ensure they are fully stocked with supplies and tidy.

  • Assist staff when needed with small projects.

  • Assist with animal feeding.

  • Serve in other capacities as needed to assist with Aullwood operations.

  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • High School diploma and 0-1 years of experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Excellent customer service skills and thorough relationship strengthening skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and welcoming demeanor.

  • Must be eager to learn and share knowledge with others.

  • Self-motivated, dedicated to accomplishing tasks, able to take the initiative and resolve problems.

  • Must be people-oriented, work well in a team and professionally represent Audubon to the public and volunteers.

  • Able to follow directions and have a strong desire to work autonomously.

  • Previous experience operating a cash register and/or point of sale system a plus.

  • Computer experience and high comfort level with technology, including the use of Outlook and web-based systems and applications.

  • Passion for conservation and interest in nature strongly preferred.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds; stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, kneel, climb on stepladders; with or without accommodation.
