About This Position
Position Summary
The IT Intern will support the IT team in daily operations with a focus on secure endpoint management, user support, and IT process improvement. This role provides hands-on experience in device provisioning, Microsoft 365 and Intune administration, troubleshooting, documentation, and cybersecurity best practices. The intern will assist with maintaining a secure and efficient technology environment for end users while gaining exposure to modern IT operations, identity and access management, endpoint security, and compliance-focused processes.
This position is ideal for someone looking to build practical experience in IT support while developing a stronger foundation in cybersecurity, systems administration, and cloud-based device management.
Duties and responsibilities
Endpoint Deployment, Configuration, and Support
- Assist with deploying, configuring, and supporting company laptops, mobile devices, and other endpoints.
- Help enroll and manage devices in Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
- Support application installation, system configuration, and secure device setup for new and existing users.
- Assist with troubleshooting device performance, login, and application issues.
- Help ensure devices meet company security and compliance standards, including encryption, patching, and required software deployment.
Security Operations and Administration
- Support the IT team in maintaining and improving endpoint security controls.
- Assist with monitoring security tools and alerts, including endpoint monitoring and logging platforms.
- Help investigate, document, and escalate suspicious activity, policy violations, or security-related issues.
- Assist with account provisioning, deprovisioning, access reviews, and general identity and access management tasks.
- Support implementation and verification of security controls such as MFA, device compliance policies, least-privilege access, and secure configuration standards.
- Help maintain accurate records that support audit readiness and security initiatives.
User Support and Service Delivery
- Provide first-line technical support for hardware, software, access, and productivity issues.
- Assist users with setup, troubleshooting, and general technology questions in both in-office and remote environments.
- Escalate unresolved or higher-risk issues to senior IT staff as appropriate.
- Deliver responsive, professional support with a strong customer service mindset.
Documentation and Process Improvement
- Create and maintain IT documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
- Document troubleshooting steps, device standards, support processes, and security procedures.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, standardization, and security across IT processes.
- Prepare summaries, reports, or project updates for the IT team as needed.
Research and Team Collaboration
- Research emerging technologies, cybersecurity practices, and IT administration tools.
- Assist in evaluating solutions and recommending practical improvements to existing processes.
- Participate in team meetings, planning discussions, and project work.
- Work closely with team members and mentors to build technical and professional skills.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Currently enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Specialized Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of IT systems, network management, and security principles.
- Familiarity with cloud solutions, device management, or endpoint security tools is preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document processes clearly and concisely.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues in a structured manner.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and general computer literacy.
- Abilities:
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
- Capability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and technologies.
- Willingness to seek guidance and apply feedback to improve skills and performance.

- Curiosity and eagerness to learn about IT systems and security practices.
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Professional Certification (Preferred but Not Required):
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft Fundamentals (e.g., Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals) are a plus.
- Experience:
- Prior internship, coursework, or personal projects related to IT support, networking, cybersecurity, or system administration is advantageous but not required.
Working conditions
- This position is a hybrid role, requiring the intern to work 2-3 days per week in the office, with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.
- Typical working hours are flexible but will generally align with standard business hours.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to accommodate deadlines, project timelines, or meetings with team members across various time zones.
- The intern will primarily work with standard office technology such as computers, software platforms, and cloud-based systems.
