Job Description
One (1) Full-time Vacancy: 40 Hours per week
Schedule: Monday – Friday fromp.m. –p.m.
Pay Rates effective July 1, 2025:
Grade 1C, Hourly Pay Rate Range: $23.19-$26.80
Anticipated Hiring Hourly Rate Range: $23.19-$25.18
DEFINITION:
Position is responsible for performing custodial functions for municipal buildings, including trash/recycle/snow removal, grounds maintenance, cleaning and maintenance of bathrooms, office spaces, floors, windows, and restocking of custodial supplies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs variety of cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, polishing furniture, polishing and waxing floors and cleaning common areas.
- Cleans and disinfects rooms; vacuums and cleans rugs; cleans tables and sinks; performs minor carpentry; operates and maintains heating and cooling systems, including thermostats; changes filters; installs and removes air conditioning units.
- Maintains exterior grounds, walkways, steps and decks as necessary; shovels snow and lays salt.
- Opens and closes buildings; unlocks/locks doors; turns lights on/off. Moves and sets up furniture and equipment for programs and events; prepares voting machines and related materials for delivery to polls.
- Collects and disposes of trash; disposes of drug paraphernalia in a safe and legally compliant manner.
- Replaces bulbs; performs minor repairs to furniture; responds to after-hours calls in per callback policy. Performs similar or related work as required.
Education and Experience:
High school degree preferred and six months of experience in custodial work; or any equivalent combination of
Education, and experience required.
Knowledge; Skills; and Abilities:
Knowledge of hardware and tools; knowledge of materials and methods for cleaning
buildings.
Ability to prioritize tasks; ability to communicate effectively with employees and the
public; ability to work safely with various products and the chemicals they contain.
Skills: Mechanical and woodworking skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Skills: Work requires moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily, such as lifting heavy objects, carrying the object(s) and stacking them or moving them. In addition, pulling, pushing, standing or walking for the full work day may also be involved. A great deal of physical effort must be exerted at this level.
Motor Skills: The work may involve assignments requiring application of hand and eye coordination with finger dexterity and motor coordination.
Visual Skills: Essential position functions require the ability to use hand tools and power tools, the ability to climb a ladder and use a dolly, and the ability to access all areas of multi-level facilities.
SUPERVISION:
Works under the direct supervision of the City Maintenance and Custodial Foreman.
