JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist

REPORTS TO: Laboratory Services Director

POSITION SUMMARY: General: Performs blood collection by venipuncture. Assists in preparation of specimens and with clerical duties. Performs all other duties as assigned. Representative Activities: 1) Obtains blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients as requested. Techniques include venipuncture and heel-stick technique. 2) Prepares blood samples for analysis in the laboratory by centrifugation. 3) Maintains venipuncture supplies as necessary and prepares a list for acquisition. Cleans work areas. 4) Logs specimens and prepares them for analysis. 5) Checks pending list for specimens not drawn and follows up as necessary. 6) Prepares specimens for pick up by reference lab. 7) Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three months of experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate required and BLS.
