About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Sustainability Coordinator is an ambassador for the company’s diversion efforts in schools, businesses, and cities and at events, as well as training, organizing, and supervising team member efforts. This position guides customers to reaching their waste diversion goals through building relationships, executing custom action plans, and providing tailored recommendation; conducts regular audits of all recycling and composting accounts that TDS supplies diversion reports to and collaborates with internal team members and external stakeholders to improve and ensure successful recycling, composting, and diversion programs for customers. The Sustainability & Diversion Coordinator leads outreach efforts and diversion project execution for the TDS Eco Academy Program, working primarily with K-12 students, teachers, and school staff.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend weekly sales meetings.
- Conduct education programs for customers and tours of the company’s facilities to educate customers on the purpose and mechanics of diversion processing facilities.
- Participate in community outreach events and activities.
- Develop and conduct “Train the Trainer” programs for customers to present new recycling and composting services.
- Develop customized diversion plans to broaden diversion opportunities, activities, and participation of existing customers.
- Customize individual plans to increase diversion opportunities for existing customers.
- Provide diversion information for requests for proposal (RFPs).
- Train company personnel to be proficient in educational programs for recycling and composting rollouts to customers.
- Identify the recycling and composting opportunities for Green Events and provide a customized plan upon request.
- Consult on new account sales when a large diversion component exists.
- Conduct audits to characterize waste trends and identify business challenges.
- Observe deficiencies and take necessary actions to ensure compliance.
- Prepare diversion reports and review for accuracy prior to sending to customers.
- Collaborate with other departments to promote sustainability and diversion programs.
- Attend weekly sales meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- One year of experience with recycling or compost operations, diversion education or community program.
- Must exhibit a professional telephone demeanor
- Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products - e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook
- Graphic design and digital asset creation skills
- Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
- Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking skills
- Must be available to work at assigned Green Events on weekdays, weeknights or weekends
- Reliable transportation to travel to customer or prospects sites or events
- Demonstrates ability to think analytically
- Ability to develop and lead zero-waste workshops, for affiliated organizations
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Experience with and working knowledge of recycling collection, single-stream recycling collection, and food waste composting
- Experience writing and implementing diversion training programs for commercial customers
- Experience conducting field audits
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Class C driver's license
- Safe driving record for the last three years
