Southside Blooms, a 501(c)3 nonprofit farm-to-vase florist located on the southside of Chicago, provides floral arrangements while remaining dedicated to environmental sustainability and community support. By offering employment and training opportunities for youth, Southside Blooms creates a positive impact on the surrounding communities.
Role:
The Farm Team Lead will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of farm production.
The Farm Team Lead will:
Implement planting plans that incorporate crop rotation, soil health, and seasonal factors.
Manage all aspects of crop growth, including irrigation, fertilization, and pest and disease control.
Execute efficient harvest strategies, coordinating labor and equipment to ensure timely crop delivery.
Lead and supervise farm staff, creating a positive and productive work environment.
Oversee maintenance of farm equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order.
Manage farm inventory, ensuring sustainable practices.
Maintain farm equipment and infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Manage inventory of supplies and request orders as needed
Your Core Contributions To The Team:
Implement efficient harvesting techniques to maximize yield and quality.
Oversee packaging processes to maintain product quality and during transit.
Recruit, train, and mentor farm staff to build a skilled and motivated team
Address quality issues promptly to meet customer expectations and reduce losses.
Promote eco-friendly farming practices to minimize environmental impact.
Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
Required Qualifications:
Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
Minimum of 2 years experience leading teams in flower farming or a related field
Basic knowledge of flower varieties, growing techniques, and post-harvest handling
Proven leadership and team motivation skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions
Strong attention to detail and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize
Horticulture, agriculture, or related background preferred
Basic farm equipment maintenance knowledge and commitment to sustainable farming
