Reports To: Director of Plant Services
Location: Canton, SD
Position Summary
The EHS & Training Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS), and employee training programs. This position ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture. The role also coordinates and tracks employee training to support operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations.
Develop, implement, and maintain written safety programs (LOTO, confined space, machine guarding, hazard communication, respiratory protection, etc.).
Lead safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Maintain OSHA logs and required regulatory reporting.
Manage SDS system and chemical inventory compliance.
Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring as needed (noise, air quality, etc.).
Oversee environmental compliance including waste disposal, stormwater, air permits, and Tier II reporting.
Lead safety committee meetings and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
Track and report safety KPIs (TRIR, near misses, etc.).
Training & Development
Maintain training matrix for all departments.
Schedule and track required regulatory training (forklift, lockout/tagout, PPE, hazard communication, etc.).
Coordinate technical and skills-based training programs.
Maintain accurate training records and certification documentation.
Work with supervisors to identify skill gaps and training needs.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Technology, HR, or related field preferred.
3–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
Professional certifications (OSHA 10/30, CHMM) preferred but not required.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements.
Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to conduct effective training sessions.
Root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
Ability to walk production floor regularly and perform inspections.
