Job Summary
City’s Temporary Packaging Supervisors are a critical presence on the production floor, working in direct partnership with our full-time Packaging Supervisors to ensure employees have the resources needed to complete their duties safely and efficiently. This position does not require a technical manufacturing background but does demand a communicative, proactive leader who can monitor assigned production zones and keep teams motivated. This individual is responsible for overseeing the daily flow of their assigned areas, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and immediately escalating mechanical, personnel, or production issues to the primary Supervisor or Maintenance team as needed.
This is a temporary role for 6-8 weeks
Shift schedule: 6pm – 6am
Duties and Responsibilities
- Floor Monitoring & Escalation: Actively patrols and supervises assigned packaging lines; escalates issues to the full-time Packaging Supervisor and Maintenance teams to ensure quick resolution.
- Team Support & Coordination: Partners with the full-time supervisor to ensure operators are stationed correctly, following the production schedule, taking appropriately timed breaks, and executing their daily directives.
- Safety & Compliance Enforcement: Serves as a frontline observer for safety. Ensures all safety procedures, GMP, OSHA, and HACCP practices are strictly followed. Provides real-time corrections for safety hazards and escalates concerns immediately.
- Quality & Auditing Support: Assists with front-line quality checks to meet City's standards. Audits, records, and communicates accurate case counts and downtime logs for the assigned area.
- Communication & Reporting: Participates in shift change meetings and huddles. Provides thorough end-of-shift debriefs to the primary supervisor regarding team performance, line efficiency, and any safety concerns encountered.
- Changeover & Shutdown Assistance: Supports the full-time supervisor during line changeovers and shutdown activities by coordinating team member placement, clearing materials, and keeping the area organized while technical staff handles mechanical adjustments.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to work for 6 to 8 weeks per the needs of the assignment
- Proven experience of leading, coaching, and motivating large teams in a fast-paced environment (e.g., warehousing, retail, hospitality, logistics, or general operations).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be comfortable giving clear directions and escalating issues urgently and accurately
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially MS Excel, for basic reporting and data entry
- Ability to understand basic math and numeric calculations
- Ability and interest to work in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of a 24/7 operation
