JobSummary:
Responsible for providing Distribution Engineering Designand Estimating services to Electric Utility Clients on Distribution design projects andthird-party joint use attachments. This position may require providingdistribution engineering design for the following: reconductor projects, polechangeout projects, failure, revenue or planned projects, and /or systemreliability projects. It may also include design work to allow for joint useattachment on facilities including third-party pole attachment design workwhich includes running modeling software on poles to determine their ability tohandle wind loading on current and proposed equipment. Work may entailroutine interaction with front line electric utility customers, design &architectural consultants, vendors, builders and outside agencies throughoutall phases of a projects' lifespan. Must be able to work effectively in amatrix environment and have superior interpersonal, communication, andorganizational skills.
JobDuties and Responsibilities:
• P Responsible for developing detaileddistribution designs and cost estimates tailored to customer specific needs andtimelineson the more complex project assignments
• Responsible for running modeling software onpoles and equipment to determine the impact on wind loading for current andfuture conditions. Software packages may include GDT (Graphical Design Tool),IKE Pole-Foreman, and Maximo.
• Coordination with governmental regulatorybodies associated with project planning, permitting, and other unique technicalissue resolution on the more complex projects such as highway widenings,reconductoring, and major feeder re-builds. Work may also entail fieldinspection duties including but not limited to patrolling distribution lines toassess current state, future needs, or storm restoration support;
• Strictly adhere to Client's procedures;
• Keep Supervisor apprised of status, issues andneeds;
• Maintain good documentation;
• Continually follow-up on key activities;
• Facilitate interactions with external Customers(phone, e-mail, meetings, etc.);
• Provide records for all significant meetings(e-mail),
• Update miscellaneous reports (ConstructionReport, etc.).
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
• High School Diploma or the equivalent isrequired;
• Associates degree in Electrical Technology orEngineering Technology (or similar discipline) preferred;
• More than ten (10) years' experience in aposition that directly relates to the responsibilities above required;
• Candidates with two (2) or more years'directly related experience may be considered with the Associate's Degree aspreferred, not required;
• GDT and Ike Pole-Foreman required;
• The ideal candidate has work experience with aUtilities
• The ideal candidate will have course work oron the job exposure to areas of distribution design such as AC VoltageGeneration, Impedance and Voltage Drop, Three Phase Power Systems, SystemLayout, Overhead Lines, Underground Distribution Systems, Substations,Distributed Generation, Substation Transformers, Distribution Transformers,Fault Interrupting Devices, Fundamentals of Protection and OvercurrentProtection;
• The ideal candidate will have estimatingexperience;
• The ideal candidate will have some supervisoryexperience;
• Must demonstrate the ability to understandcodes and practices related to the position;
• Must demonstrate understanding and applyingbasic mathematics;
• Candidate must have the ability to communicateeffectively and professionally with a diverse audience (customers, fieldworkers and management).
WorkingConditions:
• Work is primarily conducted at ProjectConstruction Sites within Utility Company service area (may require occasionaltravel to other services areas). Thismight include electric Substations, Transmission and Distribution lines.
• Interaction with other team members, as wellas supervisors and client personnel.
• Must be able to wear safety equipment asrequired by the safety department for personal protection.
• May be at more than one job site in a day andmust be able to tolerate climate changes.
