Maintenance Worker at Inspire – Goshen, New York

Basic Function: The Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining buildings and grounds that provide clean, safe, efficient and attractive locations across all Inspire sites.

MAINTENANCE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintains buildings including general and preventative maintenance, painting, and minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs, furniture assembly and other basic building repairs as needed.
• Maintains accessibility and safety of grounds including lawn and yard care, playground maintenance, walkway access, and snow removal/salting.
• Maintains tools and equipment and ensures preventative maintenance.
• Transports office supplies and interoffice mail, replaces or relocates equipment, loads/unloads deliveries, stores supplies, and provides set-up for special use of buildings.
• Maintains inventory and ensures availability of facilities supplies across sites.
• Coordinates with Facilities Manager for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently and on time, in keeping with quality and safety standards of the department.
• Provides Security checks and oversight of buildings and grounds, including response to alarms (burglar and fire).
• Assists in providing general task support for teachers as needed. Provides set-up for special use of buildings and activities.
• Assists with transport of interoffice mail if needed.
• Opens and closes buildings on an as needed basis.

CUSTODIAL:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Cleans and upkeeps floors, windows, walls, ceilings and light fixtures.
• Throughout the workday, responds to spills including cleaning bodily fluids and disinfecting.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, restock bathrooms with toilet paper, soap and paper towels.
• Collects refuse and recyclables for disposal.
• Assists with cleanup of grounds, including lawns, yards, and playground.
• Ensures cleanliness of parking areas and walkways.
• Responsible for following inventory control and proper use of department and agency supplies.
• Ensures prompt response to paging system requests.
• May be assigned additional tasks and hours during periods of emergency coverage.

Additional Functions:

• Adheres to safety policies and procedures. Ensures that individuals in need of support/students/families and agency staff are in a safe environment. Encourages co-workers to follow safety policies and procedures. Reports any potential unsafe conditions to Facilities Manager and/or Safety Committee.
• Follows current policies and procedures regarding privacy, security and corporate compliance. Adheres to all department policies and procedures.

Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent with 3 years’ experience in building maintenance. In addition, the following is preferred:

• Basic knowledge of general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, floor stripping and waxing.
• Knowledge of different cleaning products and tools.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Positive attitude with professional demeanor.
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment when engaged in stressful situations and time constraints.
• Strong initiative and ability to work independently as well as work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
• Be professional in appearance, attire, attitude and communication.
• Ability to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand oral and written instructions.
• Requires travel between all building locations. Also requires occasional or evening work.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License required.

Physical Demands: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under some temperature extremes.

Environment: The noise level is usually moderate to loud.
