About This Position
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for performing a variety of procedures including blood and urine sample collection, specimen processing, paperwork filing, waived testing, and maintaining lab function for the Oyáte Health Center (OHC).
Essential Functions and Professional Behavior Expectations:
- Assembles equipment such as tourniquet, needles, and disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
- Evaluates requested procedures to determine the suitability of the specimen for analysis.
- Verifies or records identity of patient and converses with patient to allay fear of procedure.
- Utilizes proper collection technique, labels specimen containers properly for subsequent processing and analysis.
- Adheres to infection prevention procedures: Cleans and disinfects phlebotomy area and equipment.
- Performs clerical duties as assigned.
- Ensures all phlebotomy and ancillary equipment is functioning to standard.
- Maintain effective, collaborative interdepartmental and external relations.
- Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Phlebotomy Program or 3 years of phlebotomy experience
- Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
Native American/American Indian Preference in hiring will be applied as defined in title 25 usc 44-46 &474.
Employment is contingent upon the outcome of all required criminal background checks and pre-employment drug screen.

You are required to agree that you will comply with all job-related employee health screening and immunizations prior to your first day of employment. Jobs require that you have documentation that you have completed the following immunizations prior to your first day of employment: MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Influenza, T-dap (Tetanus - Diphtheria - Pertussis), and COVID-19 vaccination is required.
Variable 8-hour shifts are covered between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm.
