Teacher's Aide at Inspire – Goshen, New York

Basic Function: The person in this position is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in the general supervision and maintenance of a class of preschool children.

Essential Functions:

• Arrive on time and assist the teacher in setting up the classroom for the day.
• Learn and consistently carry out general classroom activities. This will include but not be limited to consulting with the teacher upon arrival as to the day’s activities, setting up materials and classroom areas at appropriate times, and assisting children to participate/complete activities.
• Learn and assist with arrival/departure, toileting, snack/lunch, and playground routines.
• Comply with all regulations as outlined by the Office of Children and Family Services/ Day Care.
• Assist in making materials as directed by the classroom teacher or his/her designee.
• Monitor supply inventory and notify the teacher if reordering is needed.
• Learn and carry out behavior management plans/procedures as directed by the classroom teacher or his/her designee.
• Assist in maintaining a safe environment and ensuring the safety of all children within the program.
• Treat all children with dignity, respect and sensitivity to their cultural backgrounds.
• Consider the individual needs of each child when working with them on classroom activities.
• Assist in maintaining the classroom environment and all centers and will assume an equal share of daily housekeeping responsibilities.
• Attend weekly team meetings and monthly staff meetings as required. This may include remaining at work for up to an additional 30 minutes.
• Attend workshops and conferences in order to meet yearly Daycare Training requirements.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding student and family information in accordance with FERPA and HIPPA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Functions:

• Adhere to safety policies and procedures. Ensure that students receive services in a safe environment. Encourage co-workers to follow safety policies and procedures. Report any potential unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or Safety Committee.
• Follow current policies and procedures regarding compliance with privacy, security, and corporate compliance policies. Be thoroughly familiar with department and program specific policies and procedures.

Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Special Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to work with children with differing degrees of functioning. Be professional in appearance, attire, attitude and communication, Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment; or work independently without close supervision, Ability to communicate effectively with others using oral and written methods, Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment when engaged in crisis intervention.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with arms and stoop, kneel or crouch. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Environment: The noise level is usually moderate to loud.
