Summer Camp Counselor - Full-Time Seasonal (On Site) at YMCA of the Lowcountry – Port Royal, South Carolina
About This Position
Salary: Minimum $12.00 - Maximum $15.00
Type: Full-Time Seasonal – Non-Exempt
Schedule: Average 40 hours per week during the summer months - June, July, and August
Reports to: Youth Development Director

Role Overview
Summer Counselors provide direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp program. Provides a high-quality experience for children and parents, grounded in the YMCA's core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

What You’ll Do
- Supervise and interact with counselors and their group of children
- Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards
- Attends staff meetings and trainings
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff
- Model's relationship-building skills in all interactions
- Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s core values and has a desire to fulfill community needs
- Provides a high-quality experience to children and parents by planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with the Y’s core values
- Improvises quickly and appropriately in unexpected circumstances to better meet members' needs
- Generates and implements new ideas and approaches to improve member experiences by seeking out and incorporating diverse points of view
- Maintains positive relationships with other staff and participants through seeking to understand the other’s point of view, building credibility, and remaining calm in challenging situations
