Beacon Health System is hiring a full-time day shift Registered Nurse position for our 5SE Rehab Unit at Beacon Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.
Type: Full-Time/FTE 0.9 (36 hrs/wk)

Shift Details: 07:00 am - 07:30 pm / every third weekend 5SE Rehab Unit Summary A day on a rehab unit is structured, engaging, and especially meaningful for a new nursing student. The shift begins with report, where you learn each patient’s recovery goals—improving mobility, managing medications, or preparing to return home. Throughout the day, you complete assessments, administer medications, provide wound care, and support patients as they relearn everyday skills. Because patients stay longer in rehab, you have time to truly get to know them—and their families. You answer questions, offer reassurance, and become a familiar, trusted presence during a vulnerable time. Building these relationships allows you to connect with patients on a deeper level and care for them with both skill and heart. Rehab nursing is highly team-based, involving close collaboration with physical and occupational therapists, physicians, and case managers. It’s an ideal setting to grow confidence, develop strong clinical skills, and witness the powerful impact of compassionate nursing as patients and families move forward together. We are a 20-bed unit with private and semi-private rooms We have spaces like a kitchen, laundry room, therapy gym and game area for our patients. Patient population is strokes, neuro, amputations, orthopedic surgeries, cardiac surgeries, and oncology. We serve from ages 15 and up. Be a Beacon. Make a Difference. What You’ll Do As a Registered Nurse, you’ll report to the Director or Manager to provide professional nursing services in the area of assignment, assess the needs of patients and initiates, and implement and evaluate individualized plans of care. You will collaborate with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff in providing compassionate and quality care to patients. Registered Nurse Job Responsibilities Safely and effectively performs high-risk, high-frequency technical procedures in accordance with legal and professional standards. Prioritizes patient care activities based on acuity, resource availability, patient preferences, and departmental needs. Identifies and responds to physical or emotional health risks, initiating appropriate corrective or preventive actions. Maintains accountability for personal and delegated decisions, using evidence-based practices, protocols, and organizational values. Seeks supervision or resources when needed to ensure safe and effective care; collaborates to resolve complex issues. Develops, revises, and evaluates individualized care plans that reflect patient goals, preferences, and needs across physical, emotional, social, and spiritual domains. Ensures continuity of care through appropriate interventions, modifying plans based on effectiveness and patient satisfaction. Accurately documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes within established guidelines. Communicates effectively with team members to achieve positive outcomes and satisfaction. Delegates tasks appropriately based on patient needs, staff roles, and competencies, while maintaining accountability for outcomes. Supports professional development of peers through role modeling, feedback, and precepting. Advocates for patients and families to ensure appropriate care and outcomes. Addresses conflicts constructively and participates in decision-making processes, demonstrating adaptability and support for change. What You Bring As a Registered Nurse, you’ll bring a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment, and techniques and your advanced analytical skills are necessary to solve complex problems and make decisions related to patient care. You demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and others. You demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. You have an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.
