The Horne lab at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Chemistry is seeking a Research Technician to work as part of a team advancing an active an ongoing program of research centered around the development and application of synthetic molecules that mimic peptides and proteins. The successful candidate will conduct experiments at the bench involving peptide synthesis, purification, and spectroscopic analysis. They will interpret results of these experiments and maintain a detailed, accurate, and organized record of research activities. The individual will assist with general lab operations, including supply management, ordering, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field. Hands-on experience with one or more of the following techniques is desired: solid-phase peptide synthesis, high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and optical spectroscopy.
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.

Hiring Range: $16.50 to $20.63 per hour
