JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)
DEPARTMENT: School of Education
REPORTS TO: Associate Dean, School of Education
POSITION SUMMARY:
The School of Education at Dominican University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, with a primary focus on graduate-level teaching, program development, and scholarship in Educational Leadership. This position will play a central role in the relaunch of the MAEd in Educational Leadership and the development and implementation of a new EdD in Educational Leadership. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, advising, program leadership, scholarship, and service aligned with the University’s mission and commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice. The anticipated start date is August 15, 2026.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach graduate courses in Educational Leadership at the master’s and doctoral levels, including courses aligned with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) leadership standards
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of the MAEd and EdD programs in Educational Leadership
  • Advise and mentor graduate students, including EdD candidates engaged in applied research and dissertation work
  • Engage in scholarly activity appropriate for tenure and promotion, including research, publication, and/or grant activity related to educational leadership, policy, equity, or school improvement
  • Contribute to accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts within the School of Education
  • Participate in service to the School of Education, the University, and the profession, including teaching undergraduate and graduate education courses, committee work, and community partnerships
  • Collaborate with faculty across academic units on interdisciplinary teaching, research, and grant initiatives
  • Support partnerships with schools, districts, and community organizations
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.
  • Earned PhD or EdD in Educational Leadership, Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated preparation for teaching graduate-level courses in Educational Leadership
  • Knowledge of or experience with PK–12 educational leadership, school administration, or education systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive, and equity-centered pedagogy
  • Evidence of scholarly potential consistent with expectations for tenure-track faculty
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and community partners
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching in master’s and/or doctoral programs
  • Experience with program development, accreditation, and assessment in educator preparation programs
  • Familiarity with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) leadership standards and licensure requirements
  • Professional experience as a school or district leader (e.g., principal, assistant principal, district administrator)
  • Research or practice expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Culturally responsive leadership
    • Trauma-informed teaching and leadership
    • Health and wellness for school personnel
    • Education policy and school reform
  • Record of or potential for external grant activity
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching and collaboration
Employment requires a background screening at the time of hire.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday moving around, sitting at a desk, and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Salary and FLSA Status
  • Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 (Additional compensation may be available for candidates who assume approved administrative or program leadership responsibilities, consistent with university policy.)
  • FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time, 37.5 hours
