Forklift Operator / Yard Jockey (Yard Spotter) at DANIL CONTAINERS – Temple, Texas

We are looking for a versatile and dependable team member who can primarily operate a forklift but also serve as a Yard Jockey/Yard Spotter as needed to support yard and trailer movement operations.

Position Overview

This hybrid position is designed for a skilled forklift operator who is also capable of safely moving trailers within our yard. The primary responsibility is operating a propane-powered sit down forklift to move raw materials and finished goods throughout the production floor, warehouse, and trailer loading areas.

In addition, this role includes Yard Jockey duties such as repositioning trailers, staging equipment, coordinating with shipping/receiving, and ensuring smooth yard flow during peak periods or staffing gaps. Flexibility and strong situational awareness are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Forklift Operations (Primary Function)

• Operate a propane-powered sit down forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, and transport materials.
• Move corrugated sheets, finished products, pallets, and equipment throughout the facility.
• Load and unload flatbeds, dry vans, and other trailers.
• Pull raw material bundles to supply production machines and assembly areas.
• Ensure proper placement and movement of materials to support continuous production flow.
• Inspect materials and products for quality and accuracy before moving or loading.

Yard Jockey / Yard Spotter (As Needed)

• Move, spot, and stage empty and loaded trailers within the yard using a yard truck or spotting tractor.
• Communicate with Shipping, Receiving, and Production teams to support efficient trailer flow.
• Perform trailer checks such as verifying seals, ensuring doors are secured, and confirming trailer availability.
• Maintain an organized yard layout by properly positioning trailers in assigned locations.
• Assist with coordinating inbound and outbound trailer activities during peak hours or personnel shortages.

Safety, Maintenance & Housekeeping

• Conduct pre shift inspections of forklifts and yard tractors; report any defects or concerns immediately.
• Follow all PPE, safety procedures, and equipment operation protocols.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, both inside the facility and in the yard.
• Practice safe trailer handling, including chocking wheels, securing dock plates, and verifying trailer stability.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience

• 1+ years of experience operating a propane-powered sit down industrial forklift (Required).
• Previous Yard Jockey or commercial vehicle maneuvering experience (Required).
• Valid Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License (Required).

Physical Requirements

• Able to sit, stand, and operate equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of normal duties.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and indoors in a noisy manufacturing environment.

Skills & Knowledge

• Effective communication skills for coordinating with coworkers, supervisors, and the yard/shipping team.
• Ability to read, measure, and perform basic math (fractions, unit conversions, etc.).
• Strong situational awareness, understanding trailer traffic, blind spots, and yard flow.

Scheduling & Reliability

• Flexibility to work extended shifts and weekends when needed.
• Reliable attendance to support production and shipping schedules.
