Mental Health Clinician/ Head of Service (Therapist) – STRTP

Location: Fresno, CA
Job Type: Full Time (M-F) 11-7:30pm
Reports To: Clinicaql Director
Rate: $45-48 Hr

Position Summary

The Mental Health Clinician (Therapist) provides individual, group, and family therapy to children in a residential setting. This role includes conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and providing crisis intervention as needed. The clinician will ensure that all services are delivered in accordance with Z.N.D. RESIDENTIAL, INC. policies and state and county mental health regulations. The schedule is as follows; Monday-Friday 11-7:30pm (Please note- schedule is firm)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy for youth in a residential setting
  • Conduct mental health assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Maintain a caseload of up to six program participants
  • Participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, case consultations, and IEP meetings
  • Collaborate with treatment team members, including social workers, educators, CASA workers, and legal representatives
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of services in compliance with county, state, and agency guidelines
  • Facilitate evidence-based treatment groups such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and anger management
  • Provide crisis intervention and on-call clinical support as scheduled
  • Advocate for program participants' mental health needs and coordinate referrals for additional services
  • Participate in regular training, supervision, and professional development
  • Head of Service
    • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      1. Mental Health Program Oversight
    • Oversee or assist in overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the STRTP mental health program. Help ensure the program operates consistent with approved staffing, treatment structure, program design, and internal policy. Monitor service flow, rehabilitation activity coordination, continuity of care, crisis response coordination, and discharge coordination. The Head of Service must manage the clinical and administrative components of the mental health program and is responsible for maintaining a safe, healthy, and therapeutic milieu for staff and admitted children.

      1. Clinical and Administrative Coordination
    • Coordinate with the Clinical Director, clinicians, psychiatry, residential leadership, direct care staff, county partners, and collateral contacts to support continuity of care and program implementation. Ensure treatment concerns, service barriers, safety concerns, and staffing issues are elevated promptly. Help maintain operational alignment between residential programming and mental health services.

      1. Documentation Support, Compliance Coordination, and Escalation
    • Complete required documentation associated with assigned MHRS services accurately and timely. Identify missing, late, inconsistent, or high-risk documentation issues observed in the course of work and escalate them promptly to the Clinical Director. The Clinical Director provides primary leadership for formal chart auditing, remediation planning, documentation compliance review, and clinical quality systems. The Head of Services retains responsibility for ensuring documentation and recordkeeping functions are carried out in compliance with federal and state requirements, these regulations, and the STRTP’s approved policies and procedures. Section 15 specifically makes the Head of Service responsible for ensuring documentation and recordkeeping compliance.

      1. Admission, Placement, and Service Coordination
    • Participate in admission review and service coordination as assigned. Help ensure youth admitted to the STRTP can be safely and appropriately served within the program’s capability, treatment model, and milieu. Assist with continuity planning, transitions, and discharge-related coordination. The Head of Service must ensure each child admitted has a mental health assessment and must ensure each child’s presence in the program is not adverse to the safety or mental health needs of that child or other admitted children

    • 5.Staff Guidance, Scheduling Coordination, and Scope Enforcement
      Help reinforce that staff operate within assigned authority and lawful scope. Identify improper delegation, role drift, supervision gaps, or scope-of-practice concerns and escalate such concerns immediately to the Clinical Director. The Clinical Director provides primary leadership for formal staff training systems. The Head of Services retains responsibility for development and coordination of mental health staff schedules, training schedules, treatment service schedules, medication schedules, and other schedules required for operation of the mental health program in compliance with these regulations. Section 15 expressly assigns these schedule-development responsibilities to the Head of Service, and Section 17 sets ongoing in-service education requirements for full-time and part-time mental health program staff

    • 6.Quality and Service MonitoringMonitor the quality and continuity of mental health services provided to children, help ensure identified services are provided and appropriate to meet individual needs, and coordinate with the Clinical Director regarding corrective action, service gaps, and program improvement. Section 15 specifically requires the Head of Service to ensure identified mental health services are provided and appropriate and to monitor the quality of services delivered.

    • 7.Safety, Crisis, and Escalation
      Immediately escalate concerns involving abuse, exploitation, suicidality, homicidality, severe behavioral destabilization, AWOL risk, hospitalization, law enforcement contact, victimization, medication concerns, or any condition affecting safety or placement appropriateness. The Head of Service is responsible for maintaining a therapeutic milieu and ensuring the safety-related appropriateness of admissions and ongoing placement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field
  • Licensed or registered in California as one of the following:
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC)
  • Licensed or Waivered Psychologist (PhD/PsyD)
  • At least three years of experience working with children in a behavioral health or residential treatment setting
  • Valid California driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and required auto insurance
  • Ability to pass DOJ background check, child abuse index check, and TB screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and behavioral health treatment models
  • Knowledge of Medi-Cal documentation and billing procedures
  • Strong ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
