The Policy Research Intern will be responsible for advancing the mission of Share Our Strength, to end childhood hunger in America, by supporting a variety of policy research projects with a particular focus on school meals. The policy research intern will also provide research and analysis support to a variety of policy activities relying on the use of research and data, and other internal research projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement one to two research projects to understand the impact of different state policies related to school meals for all and breakfast after the bell on participation and other relevant outcomes.
  • Conduct a literature review related to stigma and barriers to access in school meals.
  • Provide research support to inform policy comment letters and resource development.
  • Analysis support on current internal research projects related to rural noncongregate summer meals and Summer EBT.
  • Complete and present a capstone project covering a relevant topic.
  • Other tasks and day-to-day duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD student;
  • Excellent and proven research skills;
  • Experience with policy research related to federal nutrition programs, school meals policy research preferred;
  • Organized, self-motivated and flexible;
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently;
  • Ability to work well with multiple and diverse groups of people;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Interest in nonprofits, fundraising, events, marketing, culinary industry, hunger, nutrition, sales, and/or children;
  • Available to work 20-30 hours per week;
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
