About This Position

Algo is a rapidly growing technology company specializing in the manufacturing and supply of audio and video communication products. Our innovative solutions are designed to make industrial communication safe, simple, and effective. We collaborate with some of the largest technology companies globally to deliver cutting-edge products to our customers.

Position Overview:

This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role for a builder, a problem-solver, and a doer.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of industrial & mechanical design for new Algo products, working from concept through prototyping and into production. This role is highly hands-on: you will physically build and iterate prototypes while collaborating cross-functionally with electrical, embedded, firmware, and cloud engineering teams to develop high-performance and aesthetic products such as IP speakers, intercoms, enclosures, and industrial communication devices.

You will excel in this role if you are:

  • A natural builder who likes to work with your hands and physically create things
  • Curious, pragmatic, and solution-oriented
  • Enthusiastic about appealing industrial design combining functionality with aesthetics
  • Excited to iterate rapidly and produce real prototypes
  • Comfortable owning the design end-to-end
  • A cross-functional leader who drives execution; not a process manager
  • Familiar with tooling requirements for plastic injection molding

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own mechanical design for new Algo products from ideation through mass production.
  • Create, modify, and manage detailed 2D/3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Physically build with your hands and iterate prototypes using 3D printing, hand tools, and rapid fabrication.
  • Lead mechanical experimentation, prototyping, testing, and verification.
  • Design robust enclosures and assemblies that meet environmental and reliability requirements (ESD, IP rating, corrosion, thermal, vibration, impact).
  • Apply engineering fundamentals to ensure performance, manufacturability, and durability.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (electrical, firmware, production) to ensure seamless integration.
  • Work directly with suppliers and manufacturers to optimize tooling, DFM, and cost.
  • Drive design reviews, document decisions, and maintain ownership through pilot builds and production ramp.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve engineering, assembly, and manufacturing issues.
  • Continuously explore new materials, processes, and design approaches to improve product quality and timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8+ years experience designing mechanical systems for commercial or industrial products.
  • Demonstrated ability to own the full mechanical design lifecycle; from concept to production.
  • Expertise in design for injection molding, sheet metal, casting, machining, elastomeric parts, and 3D printing.
  • Strong skills in SolidWorks (preferred) or equivalent CAD tools.
  • Proven experience building and testing physical prototypes.
  • Strong understanding of FEA, materials, tolerancing, thermal management, and DFX.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Comfortable presenting ideas to engineering leadership and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with aesthetic or industrial design, free-form surfacing, or consumer product design is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CSA, IEC, EMC, and other compliance standards (asset).
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude, including the ability to physically build and assemble prototypes using tools and fabrication equipment.

Who You Are:

  • You take ownership and finish what you start.
  • You think with your hands as much as your head.
  • You are scrappy, resourceful, and biased toward action.
  • You find joy in solving difficult, ambiguous problems.
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment where you can build and explore

At Algo, we’re committed to transparency throughout our hiring process. The expected salary range for this role is $125,000+, depending on factors such as your experience, skill set, training and certifications, market conditions, and our organizational needs.

We offer competitive group medical benefits, paid time off, and a variety of company-wide culture events throughout the year that help us stay connected, celebrate wins, and strengthen our team.
