About the Role:

A Service Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our customers’ fleet of vehicles. Our technicians support the team by diagnosing and fixing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring that powertrains are functioning efficiently, in emission compliance, and safely. Technicians will use their growing vehicle knowledge to troubleshoot and repair different powertrains and vehicle subsystems, relying on developing mechanical and electrical skills for efficient problem-solving.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fundamental heavy-duty vehicle knowledge and experience.
  • Experience or training in engine, air, brake, and transmission system diagnostics and repair.
  • Curiosity and understanding of “how things work.”
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment, including basic computer systems and software.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, fault trees, wiring diagrams, and theories of operation.
  • Attention to detail, time management skills, and willingness to learn and support problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • Ability to write and complete a written work order request.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid CDL driver’s license.
  • Technical certification or associate degree in the related field.
  • Experience with diesel and vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Previous experience working in a body shop or service environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate technical information effectively.

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to lift and carry 50lbs regularly.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods during a shift (often 8-10hours).
  • Frequent bending, topping, reaching, squatting, and twisting to retrieve parts and items.
  • The ability to push or pull carts, jacks, or other equipment as needed.
  • Repetitive tasks such as picking, packing, loading, and unloading shipments.
  • The capability to work in a physically demanding environment with continuous movement.

General Responsibilities and Tasks/Duties:

Vehicle diagnostics and repairs (70% of time allocated)

  • Diagnose Customer concerns with electronic and engine diagnosis tools under guidance when needed.
  • Complete timely and efficient maintenance and repairs based upon diagnostic findings.
  • Apply working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair other vehicle systems such as brakes/air, steering, transmission, and suspension.
  • Leverage diagnostic tools, electrical drawings, and fault tree diagrams to properly diagnose Customer complaints.
  • Assist with installation of supplemental equipment on new vehicles when required.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to address concerns and provide regular updates on repair progress.
  • Participate in internal technical discussions, case studies, and team learning activities.
  • Communicate issues to internal and external support teams as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements and trends in powertrain technology through ongoing training and professional development.

Organization and administration (20% of time allocated)

  • Support the organization of shop and workplace, and participate in 5S cleanup activities.
  • Properly document and record required information for Repair Orders (RO’s).
  • Follow disciplined problem-solving approaches based on Complaint, Cause, and Corrective Action.
  • Participate in and uphold safety protocols and improvement activities.

Electrical vehicle troubleshooting and repair (10% of time allocated)

  • Utilize foundational vehicle system knowledge and apply new lessons learned toward Electrical Vehicle (EV) performance and repairs.
  • Actively engage in learning new EV systems and functionality, including EV charger interfaces and behaviors.

Expectations/Successes:
The Service Technician performs a mix of hands-on technical tasks and diagnostic work. Mechanical and electrical knowledge will be applied to solve problems that lead to efficient and professional repairs. Success can be measured in efficient repair times, safe work performance, zero comebacks, and strong engagement with the rest of the service team. From fixing engine components to repairing systems across the vehicle, the technician’s responsibilities are diverse and essential to supporting our Customers’ applications and industries.
