About This Position

Description:

Job Summary: The Senior Director of Logistics has overall responsibility for NEFCO’s logistics activities across its distribution network, including Fulfillment Centers, and all branch (Spoke) logistics operations. This role is responsible for managing the full order cycle, including receiving, storage, inventory control, picking, packing, routing, and delivery of products to ensure operational efficiency, business growth, and customer satisfaction.

The Senior Director of Logistics will lead regional logistics teams, develop and implement strategies to optimize network performance, and ensure standardization of processes across all locations. This role will also support NEFCO’s growth initiatives, including new branch (Orangefield) expansion and acquisitions, ensuring successful integration into the existing supply chain network.

Job Duties

Logistics Leadership & Strategy

  • Oversee logistics operations across all Fulfillment Centers, branch distribution locations, and all private fleet operations
  • Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with company growth and operational objectives
  • Direct, optimize, and coordinate the full order cycle from inbound receiving through final delivery
  • Evaluate and improve quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transportation costs, and overall efficiency
  • Establish, implement, and monitor KPIs related to service levels, cost, productivity, and customer experience
  • Ensure all orders and inter-branch transfers are picked, checked, packed, and loaded in accordance with company standards

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership and direction to Regional Directors, Logistics Managers, and site leadership teams
  • Foster a motivating work environment with high levels of performance, accountability, and safety
  • Support hiring, training, and development of logistics personnel across all locations
  • Evaluate personnel and provide employee reviews as requested
  • Communicate policies to ensure compliance and consistently administer corrective action as necessary
  • Foster communication and teamwork among staff to ensure accomplishment of operational goals

Operational Execution & Support

  • Maintain continuous interaction with operations personnel across all locations throughout the day, as needed
  • Support Customer Service, Sales, QA/QC, Process Improvement, and Inventory Control as needed
  • Resolve delivery issues, operational challenges, and general branch issues as they arise
  • Monitor and respond to inbound, outbound, and product-related questions
  • Review manifests, branch review queues, and operational reports daily

Warehouse & Inventory Oversight

  • Conduct warehouse walkthroughs to ensure housekeeping, organization, and adherence to standards
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of orders, including correct material, quantity, and quality
  • Work with Inventory Control and Receiving teams to minimize errors, shortages, and “can’t finds”
  • Ensure all parcel shipments are processed for customer delivery

Process Improvement & Technology

  • Drive standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices across all logistics operations
  • Support implementation and optimization of ERP, WMS, and route optimization systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and efficiency gains

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations and all safety requirements related to fleet and warehouse operations
  • Champion NEFCO's safety culture by modeling and inspiring proactive, people-first safety leadership across all logistics operations — fostering an environment where every team member feels empowered and responsible for keeping one another safe through:
  • Actively identifying and eliminating hazards before incidents occur
  • Ensuring every incident is reported, thoroughly investigated, and used as a learning opportunity
  • Building genuine partnerships with the Director of Safety, EHS Specialists, Human Resources and frontline team members to drive continuous safety improvement
  • Leading with accountability and care — because at NEFCO, safety isn't a rule to follow, it's a value we live

Growth & Integration

  • Support NEFCO’s Orangefield strategy, including evaluation, planning, and operational readiness of new locations
  • Assess supply chain and logistics impact of potential new locations and acquisitions
  • Lead logistics integration efforts for acquisitions, including systems, processes, and training

Additional Responsibilities

  • Accept responsibility for company projects that may be indirectly related to area of responsibility
  • Complete all assigned NEFCO trainings
  • Monitor and enforce all NEFCO training initiatives for associates under supervision
  • Assist in implementation of new training and enhancement of existing training processes

Management Responsibilities

  • Monday – Friday (occasional Saturday)
  • Typically 45–50 hours per week
  • Travel to Distribution Centers, Fulfillment Centers, and branch locations as needed
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial warehousing/distribution operations with a proven track record of results
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate up, down, and across the organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and route optimization software
  • Ability to use warehouse layouts for planning purposes
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand on concrete floors for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in various climate conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity
  • Ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, crawl, and twist as needed
  • Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to review and interpret computer images and written documents
