Position Information
The Civic Openness, Reasoning, and Engagement Incubator is a new project housed within the School ofPublic Policy (SPP). Reporting to the CORE Incubator's Director, the Deputy Director for Outreach (DDO)manages daily operations and is responsible for existing and new programming related to events,outreach, and regional capacity building. The role includes active involvement in all phases of theproject's three interconnected pillars—Training, Research, and Public Events—ensuring they operate asmutually reinforcing elements where outreach and campus activities are strongly aligned. The DD-Ospecifically monitors the applied research agenda (focusing on work related to deliberative quality andpolarization reduction) to ensure that research findings inform how CORE’s curriculum is disseminatedand implemented beyond UCR. The DD-O serves as a lead representative of the CORE Incubator toexternal stakeholders—including municipal governments, K–12 districts, nonprofits, and agencies suchas the California Air Resources Board and the Government Accountability Office—and is responsible formaintaining these relationships to ensure programming reflects regional and concerns and needs. Inaddition to these outreach priorities, and in collaboration with the Deputy Director for CampusIntegration (DD-CI), the position oversees non-academic administrative activities, collaborates with theProject Coordinator to ensure compliance with Department of Education protocols, and co-mentorsIntegration Ambassadors (graduate students who are embedded within the incubator) through bi-weeklyprogress and skill-building assessments. The DD-O also identifies and pursues diverse external fundingstreams from foundations and federal agencies to support the incubator’s sustainability. The positionrequires a multidisciplinary skill set across stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, programmanagement, and development, along with a broad understanding of civic discourse issues and theability to engage with relevant applied research. Operating with a high degree of independence anddecision-making authority, the DD-O is the principal driver of the CORE Incubator’s regional footprintand is responsible for setting and executing the project’s long-term outreach vision and strategicpartnerships. The full salary range for the Deputy Director for Outreach for the CORE Incubator is $103,100.00 - $196,300 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $103,100 annually (full-time base rate). This is a 50% part-time appointment. Salary will be prorated according to appointment percentage. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.This position is eligible for hybrid work.
