Position Summary
The Lead Quality Control (QC) Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all products meet company, customer, and regulatory quality standards. This role provides leadership and guidance to QC Inspectors, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and works closely with production and management teams to maintain the highest level of product quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Inspection & Compliance
- Perform advanced inspections of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable industry regulations.
- Identify non-conforming materials and initiate corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and documentation.
Leadership & Team Oversight
- Lead, mentor, and train QC Inspectors and technicians.
- Provide direction on inspection methods, quality standards, and best practices.
- Assist in scheduling and prioritizing inspection activities to meet production demands.
- Conduct performance feedback and support development of QC team members.
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Process Improvement & Problem Solving
- Analyze quality trends and recommend improvements to reduce defects and rework.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes.
- Collaborate with production to resolve quality issues.
- Support audits (internal and external) and ensure readiness.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and review inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and quality metrics.
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of inspection tools and equipment.
- Assist in developing and updating quality procedures and work instructions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred.
- 5+ years of quality control experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of quality control processes and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or quality systems preferred.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs].
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in steel fabrication environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems is a plus.
- Experience with weld inspection is a plus.
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Weekend as needed
