Senior Applied AI Researcher

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Applied AI Researcher in Brazil.

This role sits at the frontier of applied research and production-grade AI system development, focused on building advanced GenAI capabilities for regulated and high-stakes enterprise environments. You will lead end-to-end research initiatives, from defining open-ended problems to deploying scalable, real-world systems. The work spans large language models, reinforcement learning, multimodal AI, and knowledge representation, with a strong emphasis on domain-specific adaptation. You will operate in a highly agentic research environment, leveraging autonomous systems to accelerate experimentation, evaluation, and iteration. The role blends deep scientific exploration with practical engineering impact, requiring both rigor and speed. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product teams, and domain experts to ensure research translates into measurable production value.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and execute end-to-end AI research programs, from problem framing and experimentation to production deployment, using advanced agent-driven workflows to scale exploration and accelerate discovery.
  • Drive improvements in domain-specific model performance through multi-stage training, reinforcement learning approaches, ablation studies, and systematic failure analysis.
  • Design and develop multimodal AI systems, retrieval architectures, and structured reasoning pipelines, coordinating parallel experimentation across multiple research directions.
  • Build and optimize agent-orchestrated data and training pipelines, ensuring high-quality datasets, scalable infrastructure, and reusable research tooling across teams.
  • Accelerate research-to-production cycles through automated evaluation systems, CI/CD integration, and close collaboration with engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge systems and external publications, transforming research insights into reusable, compounding organizational intelligence.
  • Mentor and guide other researchers in adopting agentic AI workflows to maximize productivity and research impact.
Requirements:
  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in AI/ML research with production-level impact, including at least 2+ years working on large language model systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with full model training pipelines (pretraining, fine-tuning, post-training) and ability to diagnose training issues using metrics and diagnostics.
  • Deep expertise in at least one core area such as reinforcement learning from human feedback, multimodal learning, retrieval-augmented generation, domain adaptation, or knowledge-grounded systems.
  • Proven experience with distributed training frameworks (e.g., DeepSpeed, FSDP, Megatron-LM or similar).
  • Strong software engineering skills in Python with production-quality code, testing practices, and scalable system design.
  • Experience working on ambiguous problems where evaluation metrics must be defined from scratch in real-world contexts is highly valued.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across research, engineering, and domain teams.
