Sheet Metal CNC Programmer – Fabrication Systems
Location: Newport News, VA
Shift: Day Shift | Monday–Friday | Overtime Available

Pay rate: Starting at $25.00+/hour depending on experience
Position Overview
A precision manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to support sheet metal fabrication and production processes. This position focuses on developing machine programs, optimizing fabrication workflows, and supporting manufacturing efficiency across a variety of precision components and assemblies.
The role works closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to convert technical designs into reliable manufacturing instructions while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
Work Environment- Established manufacturing facility with extensive fabrication experience
- Modern production environment supporting high-volume operations
- Team-oriented culture focused on precision, quality, and on-time delivery
- Approximately 60,000 sq. ft. production facility
- Review work orders, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications to create accurate CNC programs
- Write, modify, and maintain G-code programs for fabrication equipment
- Utilize CAM software to develop manufacturing layouts and flat patterns for sheet metal parts
- Support programming updates and revisions to improve production efficiency and quality
- Assist with reverse engineering activities when needed for production support
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturability and workflow efficiency
- Determine appropriate machine selection, tooling strategies, and material usage
- Apply knowledge of bend deductions, bend allowances, and fabrication processes to ensure part accuracy
- Prepare setup sheets, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation for production teams
- Coordinate with quality personnel to ensure compliance with customer requirements and ISO-based quality standards
- Support troubleshooting efforts related to fabrication or programming concerns
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, consistency, and waste reduction
- Maintain accuracy of technical data and revision-controlled documentation
- Minimum of 5 years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong proficiency with G-code programming and editing
- Experience using CAM software such as SolidWorks, TekSoft, or similar systems
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering documentation
- Strong mathematical aptitude including geometry and trigonometry applications
- Knowledge of tooling selection and fabrication methods
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy in programming and documentation
- Background in sheet metal fabrication or metal manufacturing operations
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems and production standards
- Exposure to continuous improvement or process optimization initiatives
- Experience supporting inventory coordination or material planning activities
