This role provides strategic and operational financial leadership within a mission-driven, education-focused organization committed to improving outcomes for children and families. The position plays a key part in ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance, and efficient resource allocation across multiple programs and regions. It requires close collaboration with operational teams and senior stakeholders to translate financial data into actionable insights that support program success. The role oversees financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and compliance with federal and state regulations, particularly within a Head Start framework. It also drives continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and internal controls. Operating in a remote-first environment, this position combines hands-on financial management with strategic advisory responsibilities to strengthen organizational impact.
- Provide financial leadership and oversight for regional programs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integrity of all financial operations and reporting.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in collaboration with program and support center teams.
- Oversee preparation and maintenance of financial statements, audit documentation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, OMB circulars, and applicable federal and state financial regulations.
- Supervise and support finance staff, fostering performance management, training, and professional development.
- Review and approve procurement activities, reimbursements, accounts payable/receivable, and petty cash management.
- Monitor grant requirements and ensure proper allocation, tracking, and reporting of restricted funds.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely resolution of findings and strong internal controls.
- Manage financial systems, reporting tools, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar financial leadership or management role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
- Experience working with financial systems such as MIP or similar ERP/reporting tools preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Familiarity with Head Start programs, grants management, or nonprofit/government-funded environments preferred.
- Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and operate in a remote environment.
- Competitive salary starting at $105,000.
