POSITION SUMMARY
The Junior Service Manager will support the Fleet and Service Manager in managing maintenance, repair, and operational readiness. This role requires supervision of shop-floor activities, vendor coordination, scheduling support, and administrative coverage to maintain uptime, control costs, and improve technician productivity. The Junior Service Manager will interact with multiple levels across the organization and play a key role in optimizing shop operations.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor daily shop operations and production flow; identify and remove bottlenecks to keep repair schedules on time.
- Provide coverage and act as backup for the Service Manager and primary administrative lead during absences.
- Triage incoming work orders, prioritizing repairs based on safety, criticality, and utilization, and assign tasks to technicians.
- Track and update work order status in the CMMS; ensure accurate labor and parts entry.
- Perform routine audits of open work orders, backlog, and turnaround times; escalate critical delays.
- Communicate daily with satellite offices regarding asset status, estimated repair times, and special requirements.
- Coordinate third-party vendors and outside shops for specialized repairs, ensuring approvals, scope clarity, and timely invoicing.
- Assist with preventive maintenance scheduling and ensure PM completion adherence.
- Enforce shop safety rules and maintain a clean, organized work area; participate in toolbox talks and safety audits.
- Serve as the floor point-of-contact to free mechanics from administrative interruptions.
- Assist in training and mentoring technicians on the best documentation practices and minor workflow improvements.
Competencies:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent technical education preferred.
- Minimum 1–3 years’ experience in fleet maintenance, automotive service management, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance and repair operations, CMMS systems, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively across multiple departments.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analysis, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Teams, SharePoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and compliance requirements.
- Experience coordinating with vendors and managing third-party service providers.
- Leadership potential and ability to mentor and support technicians.
Benefits and Compensation:
Position offers competitive pay, benefits, paid vacation, and health/dental insurance.
Full-time: $60,000-$70,000 a year, based on experience and qualifications.
