About Department 422 Integrated Logistics Support

The D422 Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization supports all non-nuclear Electric Boat submarine programs for the COLUMBIA Class and VIRGINIA Class. The six discipline groups that provide support include: Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) groups comprised of System Safety and Software Safety, Obsolescence Management Team (OMT), Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Ship Specification Development, Stowages, and Systems Integration.

Role Overview

D422 Obsolescence Management Team is looking for a motivated individual to support the execution of the obsolescence management plan for the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class submarines. The goal of obsolescence management is to proactively manage and mitigate contractor furnished equipment obsolescence while maintaining construction cost and schedule, as well as to support the lifecycle sustainment of contractor furnished equipment by working with the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) Community. Obsolescence, as defined by the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class ship specifications, is when a part is no longer in production, not maintainable through sparing, or no longer commercially supported or available.

The Obsolescence Management Team has an obligation to monitor, validate, notify, and support the technical mitigation of potential obsolescence issues. Mitigation steps should maintain an enterprise approach to mitigate risk to all platforms, regardless of lifecycle phase. The Obsolescence Management Team is responsible for soliciting all relevant information applicable to an obsolescence issue and consolidating it in a central database for tracking and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage obsolescence on specific submarine systems assigned to them.
  • Pro-actively monitor engineering Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Solicit vendor information.
  • Support resolution actions including the technical writing of engineering whitepapers and presentations for customer review.

This role involves frequent interaction with Engineering, Program Office, Purchasing, Materials, Contracts, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport, and Naval Sea Systems Command is required.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of Naval or Shipyard experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance.

Preferred

  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, equipment drawings, and Bills of Material.
  • Experience in ship construction, electronics, systems, design.
  • Experience in TeamCenter/EB Drawing processes.
