About This Position

The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one summer term Summer Project Intern position within our Michif Language Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Summer Project Intern will be responsible for assisting the MMF Michif Language Department with research, plans, implementation, coordination, and execution of Department Programs, events, and activities related to the revitalization of the Michif Language. The incumbent must be a Red River Métis student between the ages of 18-30 who attended school full-time during the previous year and who intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the following academic year.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Research assigned topics
  • Support the planning and coordination of Michif Department programs, events and activities as assigned;
  • Creatively plan the updating of the Michif Department Website and social media content;
  • Aid with procedures for office administration and records management as delegated;
  • Aid in proper coordination of all administrative and logistical affairs;
  • Aid with implementation of program, services, and contracts as assigned;
  • Assist in the formulation of strategic planning for the designated program implementation;
  • Attend meetings/events and maintain agenda as directed;
  • Assist in the development of information brochures and other public communications;

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of or exposure to the Michif language would be an asset;
  • Experience in preparing usable electronic forms;
  • Ability to apply new technologies;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Creative vision for social media posting and websites
  • Experience working as a Program Assistant or a similar role is considered an asset;
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check is required;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
