About This Position
Working under general supervision the Buyer is responsible for all day-to-day functions within the Purchasing department including but not limited to purchasing supplies, equipment and/or services, coordinating delivery schedules, proactively communicating with vendors and internal customers, maintaining and preparing management reports.
Essential Responsibilities- Process quotes
- Purchases raw material, components, office supplies, equipment and services
- Creates and maintains vendor files
- Sources suppliers/vendors/service providers
- Negotiates rates, delivery schedules and financial terms
- Develops purchasing strategies to ensure just-in-time delivery of supplies/materials
- Tracks purchase orders/requests
- Coordinates and communicates delivery schedules and/or issues to internal customers, including Planning and Accounting
- Obtains and distributes Certificates of Analysis (CofAs) from vendors
- Responds to requests for information regarding routine purchasing policies and procedures from employees at all levels within the organization
- Establishes priorities to ensure timely job completion
- Prepares and distributes management reports
- Executes established purchasing strategies
- Completes special projects as assigned
- Consistently demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism to company management, all levels of staff and vendors and outside agencies
- Adheres to company policies and procedures and sets a positive example for others within the organization
- Must have excellent follow-up and time management skills
- Must be a strong, pro-active communicator
Education, Experience and Licensure
- 1-2 years of related experience
- Associate’s degree in Business Management or related field, preferred
- Knowledge of Purchasing/Procurement industry best practices, desired
Technical Skills
- Computer literate – Must be able to conduct effective and efficient internet searches; demonstrate proficient use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Ability to quickly learn new software programs as needed.
Language Skills Must demonstrate good command of English language to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
Reasoning Ability: The Buyer II must be able to:
- Resolve issues of a general and complex nature and exercise appropriate judgment to escalate issues to senior management.
- Utilize independent discretion based on significant industry knowledge and experience to negotiate rates, delivery schedule, financial terms, and to select and/or recommend vendors.
- Prioritize routine and non-routine work assignments to ensure goals and timelines are met.
- Apply knowledge of Company policies and procedures to problems and provide appropriate resolution.

- Work will be conducted in a standard office environment with associated distractions such as noise from telephones, keyboards, talking, and paging systems. Temperatures are regulated by facilities management and are not within the direct control of the individual.
- Most work is done while sitting down, using a computer keyboard and gazing at a computer monitor.
- Position requires the incumbent to move from the work area to other areas of the company, including other offices, cubicles, warehouse and production areas, conference rooms and other offices in the same building or another building.
- Must be able to sit for up to eight hours per day, lift and carry up to 20 lbs. with or without assistance, reach above shoulder height, bend, stoop, and crawl to retrieve items from under a desk or floor level cabinet or drawer; push and pull, use a computer keyboard throughout the workday, stand while filing or performing other essential responsibilities.
- Exposure to standard chemicals used in an office environment is expected and includes but is not limited to toner, glue and liquid paper or white out. Additionally, the incumbent may be exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process of nutritional supplements, cosmetics, and prescription drugs. Exposure to these types of chemicals is limited.
