Responsibilities
Responsible for leading the development and implementation of safety programs to drive the region efforts to continuously improve the safety culture and results. Responsible for the successful development, implementation and/or administration of safety/accident prevention programs throughout the region. Actively works to train and support managers and supervisors in improving the safety culture. Leads region efforts to develop and maintain a safety culture to improve the safety and health of all employees. Defines processes to ensure continuous improvement in our safety performance. Develops the safety skill set of management and safety committee leaders in order to execute Division and Region safety initiatives. Provide interpretation and foster compliance with regulatory standards ensuring that all employees and management understand their requirements under OSHA law. Provides advice on safety and employee protection, and performs audits to ensure that organization and government standards are met. Actively works to implement business improvements to reduce workplace accidents and illnesses. Assists region management team in complying with Division and Region safety performance measures. Provides oversight, as necessary, of workers’ compensation claims management, modified duty programs and early return to work for injured employees.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: College Degree or equivalent work experience in related job function, plus a minimum of five (5) years experience in progressively responsible safety positions in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Must be able to develop effective relationships with appropriate audiences, i.e. government and legal agencies, all levels of region employees, and medical community. Individual must be focused on building positive strategic working relationships with a high level of drive, motivation and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs with a sense of immediacy. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem analysis skills and the ability to manage resources, and lead and motivate people.
Preferred Qualifications: Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or American Society of Safety Engineers preferred. Experience in the distribution and/or with building materials products. Multiple-site safety support experience is preferred.
Location: This position supports multiple locations in a geographic regions. Location assignment will be determined by successful candidate's location and business needs.
