This role provides an opportunity to lead global safety strategy for therapies addressing obesity and related conditions, shaping the safety profile of assigned products across all stages of development. The Senior Medical Director will oversee safety teams, guide regulatory submissions, and provide strategic input on clinical trials and risk management. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including clinical development, regulatory, and commercial functions, while engaging with external stakeholders and industry experts. The ideal candidate combines medical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership experience to ensure patient safety and support product success in a fast-paced, global environment. This role is central to advancing innovative therapies and making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes worldwide.
- Lead the global safety strategy for assigned obesity-related products, setting priorities, direction, and risk management approaches
- Oversee and mentor Safety Directors, Associate Safety Directors, and global safety professionals
- Author and provide strategic oversight for major regulatory safety submissions, including NDA safety sections, RMPs, PSURs, PBRERs, DSURs, and related deliverables
- Maintain core safety information, including Development Core Safety Information (DCSI) and Core Data Sheets (CDS)
- Guide benefit-risk management processes for assigned assets, spanning preclinical, clinical, and post-approval studies
- Contribute to clinical trial design, protocol development, and investigator materials with a focus on safety
- Represent safety perspectives in cross-functional meetings, governance committees, and industry discussions
- Lead process improvement initiatives and act as a delegate for therapeutic area leadership as needed
Requirements:
- Doctorate degree with 5 years of global drug safety experience, OR Master’s degree with 9 years, OR Bachelor’s degree with 11 years
- Minimum of 5 years of people management experience or leading teams, projects, or resource allocation
- Expertise in obesity and related conditions, including clinical, regulatory, and safety considerations
- Strong strategic, analytical, and decision-making skills to guide safety assessments and risk management
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for executives, regulatory authorities, and cross-functional teams
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced, matrixed environments with tight timelines
- Preferred: Medical Doctorate with board certification, deep knowledge of competitive landscape, and prior leadership in global pharmacovigilance
