Technical Assistant - Part Time (BT-26008) at Bastion Technologies, Inc. – Huntsville, Alabama

The Technical Assistant (Part Time) will support the space program located in Huntsville, Alabama. The Assistant to the Space Launch System (SLS) Chief Safety Officer (CSO) will serve as a key safety authority supporting program leadership by providing expert guidance on safety policy, risk posture, and compliance. This role ensures that SLS program activities align with NASA safety requirements and supports informed decision-making across program lifecycle milestones.

1RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as the program's safety authority, advising SLS program management on safety issues, constraints, and overall risk posture.
• Ensure program compliance with NASA safety policies, directives, and procedural requirements.
• Oversee the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of program safety risks.
• Review, assess, and concur on risk acceptance analyses and associated safety documentation.
• Participate in and support program control boards, readiness reviews, configuration management boards, and milestone decision meetings.
• Coordinate with engineering, mission assurance, and program stakeholders to integrate safety considerations into program planning and execution.
• Provide safety-related input to leadership to support program decisions and mission readiness.
• Other duties as assigned.

• This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
• Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering.
• Must have 20+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Experience supporting aerospace, government, or NASA-related programs.
• Strong knowledge of system safety, risk management, and safety governance processes.
• Ability to interface effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional technical teams.

WORK LOCATION:

• This position offers a hybrid work schedule; some travel may be required.
• Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

• Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
• Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
