About This Position

Description:

Objective: A BVS CDL Driver is responsible for operating commercial vehicles safely, efficiently, and professionally. This role ensures timely delivery of goods while complying with all DOT, FMCSA, and company regulations. Drivers must maintain vehicle safety, complete routine inspections, and provide excellent customer service, contributing to the reliability and success of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a semi-truck to transport products and backhauls according to state and federal laws.
  • On time delivery of products to customer locations daily with overnight travel as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service and act as a professional representative of the company.
  • Ensure all product is safely locked in truck and following all security measures.
  • Transport products between assigned BVS locations maintaining positive relationships with all BVS warehouse personnel.
  • Work with Transportation Manager to schedule vendor pick-ups to transport to necessary BVS location.
  • Responsible for contents of vehicle, ensuring that everything is appropriately packed, strapped and within the parameters of all DOT and FMCSA regulations (i.e., weight, HAZMAT).
  • Perform all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck. and trailer according to DOT regulations and company safety standards reporting all safety issues and/or repairs required.
  • Delivers product/backhauls and proper paperwork in a timely manner, with full regard to all rules of the road.
  • Maintains signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, hazardous materials and other required paperwork; delivers documentation to appropriate staff when delivery route is complete.
  • Work closely with the Transportation Manager to maintain truck cleanliness and service schedules
  • Responsible for proper procedures with electronic driver log system.
  • Assist with loading/unloading products safely following company procedures.
  • Comply with all BVS and customer biosecurity requirements.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for interstate driving with current medical examiner’s certificate.
  • Hazmat endorsement required and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Clean driving record with 2+ years of CDL driving experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to work Monday–Friday with overnight travel as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to embrace changing work environments and adapt to business needs.
  • Must pass background and drug testing in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while driving.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Ability to bend, push, pull, and perform manual labor as required.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • If not driving, the ability to work in the warehouse as needed.
  • Working with and around industrial hazards with the ability to pass a respirator medical evaluation and fit test upon hire and annually thereafter as needed.
  • Must carry company cell phone and be available for communication as needed.

Expectations and Requirements

  • Required to follow all DOT/FMCSA/OSHA/USDA/FDA and EPA Regulations.
  • Required to follow the policy that household pets and non-employee passengers are not allowed to ride along.
  • Agree to follow the BVS Weapons and DOT Drugs and Alcohol policies.
  • Required to keep interior and exterior of equipment clean on a daily basis. Drivers must remove trash from the truck at the end of each shift. Conduct thorough cleaning of the truck interior, including vacuuming seats and floor and cleaning windows weekly.
  • Required to follow the BVS Fuel Card and Business Expense policies.
  • A driver is expected to drive to support the needs of the business. Pay is reflective of the days worked and miles driven during the week.
  • A driver must be available to work our core business week operating Monday–Friday.
  • If a driver refuses to work a day without providing advance notice or submitting a time off request as outlined in the policy, that day will be without pay or CPM.
  • Drivers are not eligible for the average miles pay unless when using qualified PTO (sick and safe leave does not qualify) or the truck is out of service for more than 24 hours. Otherwise, only actual miles driven will be paid.
  • If a driver refuses to pick up/deliver a load on a day you are working, your CPM will be forfeited for that day. Special circumstances for refusing a load may be determined at the discretion and support of the Director of Transportation. Examples include an unsafe condition or in accordance with DOT regulations or standards.
  • Understand that First and Last Pay Periods of active employment will be paid for actual days worked and miles driven.
