OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manufacturing Engineer role is a key part of the company’s manufacturing engineering team. The Manufacturing Engineer Part Specialist will be responsible for the functions and experiences such as:
- Evaluate most cost-effective method of manufacturing of piece parts by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication and materials.
- Engage with suppliers and design engineering.
- Provide manufacturing decision-making information for detailed drawings, production, labor, and material costs.
- Understand and comply with all Government Regulations, best practice Industry Standards and Specific Customer Flow downs.
- Bridge the Program Management, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, A&T, Quality and Operations areas of the business through a continuous elevated level of communication and cooperation.
- Be well versed in our customers’ requirements, including technical, schedule, cost and required documentation.
- Be an internal advisor to our product design engineering group and participate in the product development reviews with our engineering and program teams as well as our customers.
- Assist in Design to Cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
- Act as a liaison between Assembly and Test (A&T) group, our suppliers, procurement, and engineering group to deal with cost reduction, manufacturing issues, lead time reduction strategies, and characterization of our existing and future supply base.
- Review and approve all detail design drawings for producibility and minimized cost.
- Be well versed in the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and associated cost drivers.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering or significant related experience in the duties specified of 10+ years.
- Understanding the functions of engineering, part manufacturing, purchasing, planning, inventory, and operations roles.
- Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to present technical information to individuals and to small cross functional groups.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods for a low volume high mix environment.
- Ability to deal with complex customer hardware, hardware specifications, manufacturing methods and procedures, manufacturing quality, product development, supplier development/evaluation.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) & (ASME Y14.5¬2018).
- Ability to utilize basic inspection equipment is essential.
- U.S. Citizen, no dual citizenship allowed.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- The ability to read drawings and a thorough understanding of multi-level BOM’s is a plus.
- Understanding of the requirements of AS9100 is a plus.
- Knowledge of aerospace traceable configuration management techniques and hardware control requirements is a plus.
- Familiarity with Chicago-area machined part suppliers is a plus.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks is a plus.
- Knowledge of certification/qualification testing per DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810 is plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND VISUAL DEMANDS
- Standard office environment; occasional exposure to manufacturing plant noise/temperature, requiring PPE.
- Frequent speaking, listening, and computer use.
- Vision requirements include depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
